New Business:

There was a brief discussion about the Union County POD exercise.  This was to see how quickly we could set up a POD.  It was conducted at Muhlenberg Hospital.  The program went off fairly well.  Health Officer Ferraioli stated he just received information the federal government will be supplying the H1N1 vaccine.  There will be two shots.  The seasonal flu vaccine and the H1N1 vaccine with a booster shot.

The Kenilworth Little League was informed last year that they needed a two compartment sink.  Health Officer Ferraioli stated we did not pursue it last year, however, we stated they would need to comply this year. REHS Grady stated she was told that the “higher ups” said to leave the Little League alone.  Health Officer Ferraioli stated he wanted the Board to know he was going forward with requiring the Little League to get the three compartment sink.  This is a sanitary requirement.

Dr. Pugliese’s letter of resignation was mentioned.  He has purchased a home in Cranford and his business is in Westfield.  Dr. Pugliese would like to remain until the end of the year.  The Board would like to have him stay to the end of the year.  The request was stated to the Mayor.  There has been no reply as of this date.

Old Business:

Novel A/H1N1 Flu Strain was briefly discussed.   The Federal Government will deliver a vaccine this fall.  Health Officer Ferraioli stated we will have to look for a facility to give the vaccine.  The high school was suggested.  The seasonal flu can still be given at the Senior Center.

The Municipal Rabies Clinic was discussed.  Health Officer Ferraioli stated the clinic is set up for Sunday, October 4th from 10-1 pm at the Kenilworth Fire Department located on Washington Avenue.

The situation concerning the Shell Service Station was discussed.  REHS Grady spoke to GES, the environmental firm that is handling the contamination.  The representative for GES stated her client wanted an email sent stating what tests we were requesting.  They said they would then forward the information we requested.  REHS Grady stated she wanted to know what contaminants they were testing for and the levels that came back.  There hasn’t been any response to date.

The Health Fair Committee had a meeting.  The donation letters have gone out.  We have received $950.00 to date.  Commissioner Neuhauser suggested having a meeting to find out how many volunteers we need.  President Moscaritolo inquired if we had invited to Fire Department.  It was decided we would sent a letter to the Fire Department inviting them to attend the Health Fair.
