We played baseball all day out in the field bihind Richfield Ave. Carl Jensen and Wayne Furzy and alot of other guys all hung out uptown on the corner. My mother still lives in town so I try and grt back to visit and take long walks around town to see all the old spots like the water tower and Harding school. I also like to see all of the changes that have taken placein my town, I am now living in San Diego Ca. another great place to live but my hearth will always remain i Kenilworth the place I grew up in. The best little town in N.J.

- How is everyone from Kenilworth? After 40 years I still call it my home. When I come up from Barnegat, I always stop at the Kenilworth diner. Then I take my son down my memory lane. I always go past the house on Monmouth Ave. and talk about our great neighbors that we had. We only had 3 at the time. Minnie Leukauskis and her family was one of them and her daughters babysat my brother Dennis & I. They were great friends and neighbors. Anyone who lives in Kenilworth is fortunate. It is a great town!

Hi..What a pleasure when searching the computer to find this Web-site. I was from Kenilworth, went to the mcKinley and Harding schools. Graduated Jonathan Dayton Regional High School 1959. We have an active group re: our many Reunions and at this stage of our life it would be great to touch base with some that have moved and gone into different directions. I married a home-town boy, Donald (Tubby)Reid in 1960, he passed away in 1995. We had four sons. My sister still lives in Kenilworth, Carol Lee Murphy, on Union Ave. with her husband Cliff. My brother Don and his wife Lynne live in Manahawkin. I live in Point Pleasant and remarried 2 years ago to Bob Day. We live on the Canal, the Inter-Coastal waterway.

- My name is Bill Bertolotti. I lived in Kenilworth from about 1966 through 1986. My friend's know me as 'Bert' but that was most of my relatives' nickname! I attended Harding until 1978, then Brearley until 1982. I went to Rutgers as many of us did back then, and proceeded to continue the tradition there. I met my future wife, Jackie, while at Rutgers. We live in Bethlehem PA. since 1992 and have been married since 1986. We have 3 wonderful boys. Twins James and Robert, born in 1994 and a 'single' David born in 2000. I run my own consulting practice that consists of basically me at this point! I specialize in Oracle Applications business consulting and spend the better part of my day in NJ or eastern PA. The older Bertolotti family who had such a big part of Kenilworth history are dwindling to a few now, but the family name lives on!. Anyone interested in reminiscing, please contact me.

- Hi, my family moved to 10th Street in Kenilworth when the city was made up of less than 50 houses. I had the good fortune to be raised in Kenilworth and graduated from Springfield regional in 1963. We are in the process of putting together a 40th reunion of that graduating class. The class was made up of over 300 students and thus far, after 3 months of effort, we have made contact with less than 50. - My mom Rose (Ciravolo) Purcell and her family was raised in Kenilworth. One of her brothers Sam Ciravolo still lives there with my Aunt Marion. I remember going to their house and ice skating on the pond. My grandfather Anthony Ciravolo was the town barber in Kenilworth back in 1940-50's...possibly earlier then that also. I always loved visiting there, such a pretty little town. I can remember going to the candy store a couple of doors down from my grandfather's barbershop when I was just a little girl. I haven't been to Kenilworth in yrs. If anyone knows of any of the Ciravolo's please drop me a line.

I'm hopeful someone can give us some advice. My husband has just accepted a position with a company in Manhattan NYC (working off 42nd street right by Grand Central Station). We're going to be relocating from Michigan and after a week in CT & NJ we are in a bit of culture/sticker shock with your housing prices. We're looking for a reasonably priced safe city to call home and raise our 2 1/2 yr old daughter. Right before we headed to the airport we saw a house for sale in Kenilworth and headed over to look at it, we really like it but are having such a hard time finding out more info about the city. It seemed to be a very nice up and coming type area from what we saw on our very brief drive through. I'd love to know more from residents, how it is in terms of raising a small child, if it's the type of city I'll feel comfortable walking my daughter & dog around etc.
Also if anyone could tell me the best way for my husband to commute from Kenilworth to his new job that would be wonderful also.

- I grew up in Springfield, but knew many people from Kenilworth. I also went to school, JDRH, with many people who became my friends, from Kenilworth. My brother, Duncan Foster, died in 2002, but most all of his friends were from Kenilworth. He played football for DJRH.

Have been living in Phillipsburg, N.J. for nearly fourteen years with my 17 and 18 yr. old daughters,but have been doing a lot of traveling as a professional actress/singer/dancer.(Part of the last two years I was on tour on the West Coast featured in ,"Ain't Misbehavin' ".) I grew up in Kenilworth, went to Harding and am a '78 Brearley grad. Make most of my bread & butter performing in the tri-state area in schools, libraries, festivals or theaters doing Afrocentric storytelling, poetry & dance either solo or with my own theater troupe, The Zawadi Collective. I also write. I was a featured columnist for a multi-cultural newspaper. I've also had several free-lance articles published in publications across the country. I'm getting divorced, but currently living with my future husband, with whom I also perform. I am very happy. A year ago I never would have found myself responding to this site because I would have found it corny, but I guess time does heal and indeed, you can go home again. I had the chance to teach some Kenilworth students in March at the Union County Teen Arts Festival. I taught "The Art of Comedic Acting." What an absolute hoot to be telling kids from my hometown how I had achieved my dream by actually becoming a performing artist! I shared the ups and downs of my career, all the while thinking,"Talk about completing a cycle!" - I grew up in Kenilworth on 12th street where we played kickball, baseball, etc in the street in the 1940's 50's when it was safe to go out trick or treating until 11 pm and we didn't have to search the candy received..it was safe! The rego family has been in kenilworth since 1908, we lived mostly on 11,12,19 and 20 th streets. I graduated from Jonathan Dayton, missed going to our own high school by one year. Kenilworth was a great town to grow up in, I remember the pond and fields where the high school is now, and all the open fields on 12 th street and near the water tower. Ice skating on the pond in the winter near the water tower, looking back on it now, it was so Norman Rockwell !

My name is Justine Christoff (Demeter) and I grew up in Kenilworth, graduated from Harding School in 1987 and then form DBRHS in 1991. After attending Ramapo College and then working for a year, I moved myself to Phoenix, Arizona to attend the Phoenix Regional Police Academy. For the past 3 years, I have been employed with the City of Tempe Police Department. I got married in September 1998 to a wonderful man and we are planning a family next year. I am a graduate of '68 and am on a reunion hunt for DBRHS grads of '67 '68'& 69. Plans are in the making for a joint reunion to be held the weekend of Oct. 10, 11 & 12, 2008. We'll start off the weekend with a Friday night home football game against Roselle Park, (you all remember that game of '67?)! I lived in Kenilworth from 1950 to 1963. I went to Harding and JDHS in Springfield. I am currently living in Cape Coral Florida. My cousin Karen Bausch, class of '68 moved here 6 years ago and convince me to join them this summer. I am employed at a local newspaper part time and a volunteer at the Cape Coral Police dept. The Cape is also a great place to live.

- My family moved to Kenilworth from Bayonne in 1954. We lived on N. 6th St. I went to St. Theresa's and Jonathan Dayton RHS...1964 graduate. I enjoyed growing up in this great little town, tho it has grown since I moved away. My Mother and other family live in NJ, so I get back several times a year.
I now live in Falls Church VA and have worked on The Joint Staff @ the Pentagon since moving to VA in 1974. I'm planning to retire soon....maybe in 2002.

I currently am English Department Chairperson at Mount Vernon Alternative Public High School in Mount Vernon, NY. I live in Monroe, NY with my wife Lauren (a history teacher at Thornton Donovan Private School in New Rochelle, NY) and our two black lab puppies, Elinor and Marianne. My sister Patty Fischer was 2 years ahead of me. I'd love to hear fom anyone that might remember me or "the Fischer Girls" as we were known as. Memories I have of Kenilworth long supase any others. I always will remember the Frozen Cow, Jimmy Buff's hot dogs, Hi's, and the Sweet Shop. Not to mention "The St. Theresa's Fair" every August. Family home at 13 No. 12th Street was bulldozed to make room for an obscenely oversized structure. Life goes on. Brother Mike still lives in Kenilworth. Brother Dave moved to Missouri. - Wow. Cool site. A lot of memories as I scroll through the posts. I grew up in Kenilworth in the 50's, like many who posted here. I went to Dayton regional for three years, and like Charlie Gatz (below) I was in the first graduating class at Brearley. In fact, I gave the first graduation speech in the class of 67.
I lived on Richfield avenue and I remember the empty lot where we played baseball and football behind Richfield and Red Oak Lane. Today it is probably condos. We called it "the woods." Blackberries grew wild there and we'd pick them by the bucket.
I am in Houston now, where I have lived since 1981. Married a Texas girl and my younger daughter is a native Texan. (She is proud of that....) Me, I'm still a Jersey Boy. Going to see Springsteen in Houston next week (April 8) to renew my Jersey roots.

- Wow, how great to find this site!!!! I grew up in Kenilworth from 1969-1978. Went to St. Theresa's from 1st-8th grade and graduated from there in '78. Have GREAT memories growing up in Kenilworth. Lived on Clinton Ave. Family was very close friends with Ange and Min and the Vaz's of Ange & Mins restaurant. Ate there all the time. Loved Charlies Hot Dogs!! Haven't had one that good ever since!!! Ice skating and sledding at Galloping Hill, summers at the park on Michigan Ave, fireworks on the 4th in Cranford, the boulevard etc... Great place to grow up! Live in PA now with husband and 12 yr old daughter. Hope to bring my daughter to Kenilworth this summer to show her around. She's heard so much about it! Anyone know if Anthony Vaz stil owns a restaurant on the boulevard? His grandparents were "ange & min". Love this site!
