This grass-roots committee of concerned local citizens was formed in October 2002 in Kenilworth. Currently, members include citizens from every affected Union County community.

The group is opposed to the reactivation of the Staten Island and Rahway Valley Railroad through the communities of Roselle, Roselle Park, Cranford, Kenilworth, Union, Springfield and Summit. The Coalition wants the Union County Board of Freeholders to uphold its agreement with the Morristown and Erie Railway stating that the rehabilitation will not commence without the concurrence of both the local municipalities and the County. The Coalition wants the Union County Board of Freeholders to halt all work on this project and uphold their responsibilities to the welfare of these communities and take the necessary steps to stop this reactivation.
